Aronia (Aronia melanocarpa)

$25.00

Aronia or black chokeberry is a native shrubs that grows throughout the allegheny plateau and the Appalachian mountains. It’s one that I’ve found on hikes along rocky ridges in openings where larger trees can’t take root. They grow fine at our farm in full sun but can also thrive in part shade as a food forest understory plant. The berries are tart, even a bit tannic, but contain high amounts of antioxidants and nutrients. Be aware, deer love to eat the leaves.
