American Chestnut Hybrid
Evan’s seed and nut foraging in Washington state also awarded us with chestnuts with mixed parentage. Staff at American Chestnut Foundation identified them as dentata x sativa (american x european hybrid.) The parent trees produce tasty nuts. When Evan and John visited the parent tree in January of 2026 John was amazed at the size of the two trees. They are of unknown blight resistance, but these will join you to a long line of experimental chestnut growers, and promise tasty nuts and timber potential.
