American Chestnut Hybrid
Evan’s seed and nut foraging in Washington state also awarded us with chestnuts with mixed parentage. These trees appear to have American Chestnut genes mixed with European. These types of hybrid trees often produce good nuts and don’t grow as tall as pure American trees. They are also more blight resistant and will live longer than pure American Chestnuts. When Evan and John visited the parent tree in January of 2026 John was amazed at the size of the two trees.
